In the early 1980s, Ernesto Colnago created the Master frameset, which would go on to be one of the company's best-selling and most loved models in the range. The Arabesque, released in 1983, was the quieter cousin that only enjoyed a short production run of one year. That made the Arabesque a collector's item and the new version of this model promises to be no different, thanks to the signature lugs.
Those lugs are reminiscent of the elaborate wall decorations of The Alhambra, in Granada, Spain, where the Moors arrived and built palaces that featured walls of incredibly intricate carvings - these beautiful decorations have stood the test of time, as has the appeal of Colnago's lugwork. The lugs are central to the Arabesque model and the reason the frame has been re-issued by Colnago.
The new edition of the Arabesque features star-shaped tubing whereas the original boasted a round Columbus tubeset. In that regard, the Arabesque is like the Master but the difference between the two is those distinctive lugs.
